GOODBYE IL SOUTH, AND GOOD RIDDANCE...

THE COLUMN THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO BRING ON THE RED WINGS!
Here's that hitting coordinator Dave Lefchak (Howie Long) with his "two
cents!"
MY TWO CENTS
by Dave Lefchak
August 8, 1999
Fesh at the Beach day was dampened by Mother Nature, as well as another subpar performance by
the Red Barons. In their final game outside of the division, the Barons couldn't ebb the Tides
as Nawfuck took the rubber game of the 5-game series by the final of 6-3. Here are my
insightful ramblings:
We did have an Arkansas blast today from Billy McMillon in his first game back in the starting
lineup from a shoulder injury. His first inning blast was his 14th of the year, and it should
have been a harbinger of our offense against washed up Jose Mercedes. However, this was not the
case today. Hopefully Rochester will provide the shot in the arm we need to go to face
Pawtucket later this week at McCoy Stadium.
Joel Bennett struggled once again early on, and he was unable to find his stuff all game. We
know you're trying Joel, but you are the ace of this staff and we will need key pitching
performances in the stretch run and hopefully the playoffs.
Today's Charlie Hustle Award goes to Wendell Magee Jr. for his AMAZING diving catch in
centerfield in the top of the 9th. Wendell continues to amaze offensively and defensively every
game. Keep it up, Wendell!
BRING BACK CLEMENTE ALVAREZ!!!!!!!! We can carry 3 catchers!!!!
Today's Trojan Boner of the Game Award goes to.... and it saddens me to say this..... Red Barons
second baseman Torey Lovullo. Although, come to think of it, what happened probably was not
really his fault. With a 3-0 count in the bottom of the 9th, he took a pitch right down the
middle that he could have blasted. It's probably Bombard's fault for not giving him the green
light on the 3-0 count. Oh well, no use in pointing fingers....
Today's column would not be complete without mentioning the ridiculous play in the bottom of the
9th inning during Jon Zuber's at bat. He hit a chopper back to Tides pitcher Derek Wallace, and
he flipped to Jorge Toca covering first. The throw pulled Toca off the bag, but Jorge, in his
infinite wisdom, forgot that Zuber was still running to first base. Zuber reached safely on the
ridiculousness. What a thing to happen at the Party at the Park day!
That's my two cents, gang. And always remember, enjoy the FESHtival.
