BARONS WIN AT THE MAUSOLEUM OF THE IL!

The bullpen-by-committee approach works splendidly.

Gene Schall and Chris Pritchett hit back-to-back homers in the 7th inning to solidify a 6-1 Red Barons victory over the Charlotte Knights. The key blow came when Kenny Woods laced a 2-RBI triple to center field to give the Barons the early lead that they would hang on to throughout the game. Robert Dodd pitched well for 4 innings, then Manny Barrios actually pitched well this time to earn the win. THE FESHER entered the scene in the 7th inning with a 4-1 lead, and had a tough time on the hill. He walked two, and gave up a single to load the bases. Then, he ran the count full to DH Desi Wilson. He threw the perfect pitch and caught Wilson looking to end the threat.

TRANSACTION REPORT!!! (7/18/00)

Before Tuesday night's contest in Charlotte, the Barons lost their top hitter and one of their all-stars, catcher Gary Bennett. Benny was called up to the Phils because Mike Lieberthal is nursing an injury. In all likelihood, Bennett will return as soon as Lieberthal is good enough to play. In return, the Phillies are sending down a familiar face and a new face. The familiar face is good ol' Steve Schrenk, who has been up and down all season between Scranton and Philly. The new face is David Coggin, who was supposed to be at Scranton all along if it weren't for all the Phils' injuries. The Barons will have to DL someone or cut someone to accept both of these players. The best bets would be SS Jimmy Rollins, who injured his hand Monday night, or pitcher Amaury Telemaco, who left Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. And who knows what will happen when Bennett comes back. Only time will tell....
Hmm, I was just thinking about something...David Francia is pretty good. As is Reggie Taylor. Boiled Okra!
