The 2006 Red Barons

(3/5/06) - John Russell Hired as Red Barons Manager!!

The man who caught Nolan Ryan's 6th no-hitter will become only the 9th manager in the 18 season history of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons.  Odds are he'll be gone next year with the affiliation switch, but I'll get into that later.

Russell was most recently the 3rd base coach of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  No doubt Barry Johnson spent time working with him in the past year.

John was a one time first round draft choice of the Phillies and spent eight years managing in the minor leagues.  All of his managerial experience has come in the Twins organization.  His most recent season as a manager was 2002 when he led the Edmonton Trappers to the Pacific Coast League title.  Interestingly enough, Russell played for the 1988 Maine Phillies, the team that would move the following year to a brand new ballpark in the foothills of the Lackawanna River Valley.

The picture shown there is from a January press conference at the Stadium Club restaurant.  Tell me that doesn't look like they are reverting back to Maroon we love so dearly?  I may have to create a FESHpoll on the topic.  Do people prefer the Red?  That uniform Russell is wearing has already done away with the red sleeves.  If you haven't seen the red sleeves uniform, an example is shown above.

Some Other Things

Amazing how I don't hate the Clippers anymore...
And what do you know?  They did it again seven years later.
Thanks to Ryan Fleming for giving me the gameball of the final out that clinched the division against Rochester.

NEXT GAME: Columbus Clippers  - AAA Affiliate of All that is Evil and Soulless!
Thursday, April 6th, 2006 at 7:05PM at Cooper Stadium

Every seven years!?

If you do manage to attend a game this season, you owe it to the Fesh forefathers, to yourself, and to 'the Moosic Cop' to finish the evening with some fine dining at CHICK'S DINER on Moosic St. in Scranton.  This South Side institution was the official eatery of the Sean Fesh Fan Club!!

However, no gameday is complete without a lunchtime stop at Coney Island Texas Lunch on Lackawanna Avenue downtown.  Owned and operated by Red Baron season ticket holder Pete Ventura, Coney Island is the perfect place to throw your diet out the window and get delicious hot dogs smothered in chili and cheese!  Ah yes...hot dogs...and speaking of Hot Dogs, I've managed to dust off a Fesh Fan site favorite.  To your right is ex Indianapolis Indian and Louisville Riverbat D.T. Cromer taking some warm-up hacks.
